A leisurely stroll

Wake up in the morning and go for a stroll down the Queen Street East Walkway. This walkway is 1.8km long, with seats located along the way to take a break. This is a great path to use if you’re looking for a safe space to walk with the family or teach the kids to ride their bike – it’s  also pram and dog friendly.

Real fruit ice-cream

Take a trip north from here to Lewis Farms to grab yourself a real fruit ice-cream. Located on State Highway 1, Lewis Farms sells delicious strawberries and fresh asparagus when in season, as well as their creamy real fruit ice cream. Park up to enjoy a delicious treat, while the kids burn off energy on the playground.

Hit the beach

Get your togs on (if the weather allows) and head down to Waitārere Beach. A favourite of locals, this beach hosts unspoilt views and its very own buried shipwreck. With great swimming, and patrolled by the surf club during summer, it’s a great place to spend the afternoon with the kids.

A nostalgic dinner

Featuring all the favourites from when we were kids, like the infamous traffic light and cobb crunchies, Cobb & Co is the perfect place to take the kids for dinner. With a central location in the heart of Levin, and a menu to suit even the fussiest of taste buds, you’re sure to have a great time.

Day 2

  • Explore Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom and De Molen Windmill
  • Café De Molen for lunch
  • Time to get off the loop
  • Fish n chips on the beach to end your trip

Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom and De Molen Windmill

Explore Māori, Dutch and Pioneering history when visiting Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom and De Molen Windmill. Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom features museums, a gallery, exhibitions, a library and a heritage centre – that’s a lot to explore! And just across the way is De Molen Windmill, a full size 17th century replica Dutch Windmill, allowing visitors to explore the upper levels and inner workings of a Dutch flour mill.

Café De Molen for lunch

A little taste of the Netherlands, Café De Molen is located right next door to the De Molen Windmill. Their menu includes traditional Dutch favourites, with a Kiwi/ Dutch fusion using locally sourced ingredients.

Off the Loop Wake & Water Park

Off The Loop Wake & Water Park is New Zealand’s premiere cable wakeboard park. Located just off State Highway 1, they have 2 tower cable systems, a large selection of wakeboard ramps and rail slides and an incredible floating inflatable aqua park. It’s easy to spend hours here!

End the day with a Kiwi classic

Head down to Mr Grumpy’s out at Foxton Beach to enjoy fresh fish n chips on the beach. Watch the sunset over the Tasman Sea, and tuck into some Mr Grumpy’s specialties like their Cheezy Weezy Chips. Yum!
