Top 10 rainy day activities

Don’t let it rain on your parade… or your weekend plans.

If you’ve found yourself in Horowhenua for the weekend and wondering what there is to do, we’ve got some good news for you. There’s heaps! Here’s our top 10 things to do on those dreary weekends.

1. There’s a difference between board and bored.

Don’t knock the simplicity of cracking open a board game for your weekend fun. Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom has an abundance of board games and jigsaw puzzles to keep the littles ones entertained (and the adults too!)

2. Movie magic

What’s better than getting cozy and watching a movie? Focal Point is Levin’s local cinema, and not to mention has amazing in-cinema food options too! Grab a hot chocolate and a bruschetta board and check out what blockbusters are playing.

3. Toys galore

Family fun for all ages, spend an arvo at Shannon’s Toy Circus. There you’ll find a toy and gaming museum, mini golf, skate rink, scooter and bmx ramps/ foam pits!

5. Game time

Have a game of ping pong, air hockey, or foosball at Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō Youth Space, Levin.

6. What in the audio!

Home to over 100,000 records of various formats and an estimated 5 million feet of film, visit MAVtech, a one of its kind museum to uncover 100 years of audio visual technology and history. Make sure you check their opening times before heading along!

7. Tasting time

Head down to the Ōhau Wine cellar and have a local wine tasting session. Experience the unique aromatic flavours.

8. Shop till ya drop

Take the time while the weather’s not great to explore some of our great boutique shops. Mewington’s Book Shoppe should be top of your list for great books or Petal & Bee Grocers for whole, local organic finds!

9. Slide down to the pools

Get drenched on purpose at the Levin Aquatic Centre. Did we mention there’s a hydroslide?!

10. All aboard!

Head to Tokomaru Steam Engine Museum to discover one of New Zealand’s largest collections of steam engines and early industrial heritage.
