We asked the locals what their favourite pie is on Facebook and let’s just say we’re all quite passionate about our pies! We have pulled together the results to tell you where to go if you’ve got a pie craving!

Sponge Kitchen

“Sponge Kitchen all the way”, “Sponge Kitchen – their bacon & egg pies are on point” are just some of the comments we received when we asked the locals what their favourite pie shop is. Located in Oxford Street, Levin, Sponge Kitchen not only do they serve some of the biggest sausage rolls, their pie range is impressive too with flavours like chicken and cranberry and the classic mince and cheese. Yum!

Highway 57 Bakery and Café

Shannon’s local gem, the High 57 Bakery and Café, is not to be missed. With their steak and mushroom pie receiving high praise from the Horowhenua locals, and conveniently located on the main road in Shannon, there’s no reason not stop in and try it yourself!

Four Square – Foxton, Waitārere Beach, Shannon

The locals can’t get enough of the Four Square pies! With 3 great locations in Waitārere heer Beach, Shannon & Foxton Beach and their steak and cheese pies seeming to be a fav of some locals, we reckon you give them a taste. Rumour has it they also do a pretty good milkshake.

Annie’s Kitchen

As you’re approaching Levin from the South it’s hard to miss the little gem that is Annie’s Kitchen. One commenter wrote “Annie’s are pretty dang tasty” and we couldn’t describe their pies better ourselves. Open 7 days, with classics like Mince n Cheese, Annie’s is a bakery offering much more than pies. Apple cinnamon donut anyone?

Leaven Bakery

A new player on the block having only opened in 2023 but don’t underestimate them! Their pies are out of this world but the deliciousness doesn’t stop there. Their range of donuts are next level, including flavours like biscoff, banoffee and raspberry and white chocolate, we wish you luck leaving without buying a box.'

Sam’s Bakery & Cafe, Bush Street Café, Oxford Bakery & Cafe and Bean Here Café were just some of the places mentioned, but we know there are so many more delicious pies to be had in Horowhenua.
