Kiwi Camping: Where to pitch your summer adventure

Time for your next adventure?

Whether it's the flashiest campervan on the market, a converted old tradie van, or you're borrowing your mum's tent, camping is a favourite pastime for many Kiwi. So, pack your marshmallows and sleeping bag because we've found the best spots in Horowhenua for your summer camping adventure.

Camping at Kimberley

Nestled in a bush setting next to a braided river, Kimberley Reserve is a peaceful site to set up camp. With popular swimming holes and walking tracks nearby there’s plenty to do. It’s also only a 10 minutes’ drive from Levin town centre making it easy to make a quick trip to town to get the necessities. Camping permits are required to camp in this beautiful spot so make sure you’re sorted before you go (find more information about camping permits on the Horowhenua District Council website).

Trekking the Mangahao - Makahika Track

A bit more than a leisurely stroll, this tramping track is part of the national Te Araroa walkway and covers 15 kilometres of scenic countryside. This forest walk is great for camping, hiking and walking with lookouts along the way. This is an advanced track though, so make sure you’re prepared!
